In collaboration with the Institut Français and the Embassy of France in the United Arab Emirates. Bassam Freiha Art Foundation hosted Art for Thoughts, a panel exploring how residencies, training programmes, and artistic networks create meaningful bridges between France and the UAE.

 

The discussion focused on the impact of international mobility, mentorship, and collaborative ecosystems in shaping artistic development. Speakers shared insights on how these platforms inspire creativity, foster cultural understanding, and support artists in building sustainable, long-term connections across borders.

 

This programme reflects the Foundation’s commitment to nurturing dialogue, supporting creative exchange, and strengthening ties within the global artistic community.

Michel Gemayel

Michel Gemayel is Executive Director of Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF). With over 15 years of experience in cultural leadership and creative industries across the MENA region, he oversees the Foundation’s strategy, marketing, communications, and business development efforts, guiding ADMAF’s mission to support artistic excellence and cultural engagement.

Hana Kazim

Hana Kazim is a filmmaker and former resident at Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris. With an MFA in Film Producing from the AFI Conservatory in Los Angeles, she has worked as a film executive and director since 2015. Her practice explores genre cinema, storytelling and the evolving landscape of Middle Eastern film production.

Shafeena Yussuf Ali

Shafeena Yussuf Ali is the Founder and Director of the Rizq Art Initiative. With a background in art history, philanthropy, and cultural entrepreneurship, she established RAi to amplify voices from the Global South and foster creative exchange in Abu Dhabi and beyond. Through exhibitions, residencies, and training programmes, she is committed to creating inclusive platforms where artists from diverse backgrounds can engage, network, and develop their practice.

Stéphanie Salha

Stéphanie Salha serves as Director of the Institut Français. With a strong background in cultural diplomacy and cooperation, she leads programmes that foster artistic exchange and cross-cultural collaboration between France and the UAE. Under her guidance, the Institut Français drives initiatives in residencies, training, and public engagement, reinforcing the role of culture in building lasting international partnerships.
