Tarek Elkassouf

Tarek Elkassouf is a Lebanese–Australian artist based in the UAE whose practice explores balance, transformation, and the unseen forces that shape human perception. His work often engages with the interplay between emptiness and fullness, silence and sound, translating these intangible concepts into sculptural form.

Elkassouf’s works have been commissioned and acquired by leading cultural institutions, including the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris, Ithra in Saudi Arabia, and the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU). His practice pushes the boundaries of sculpture, developing a visual language that conveys complex ideas through both material and immaterial forms.

“Boundaries” is a sculptural series that explores the perception of intangible barriers shaping our lives. These works dwell in the spaces between what is known and what remains mysterious, between what is seen and what is unseen. Each sculpture embodies the challenging limits individuals encounter daily, reflecting how our perspectives are shaped by societal norms, expectations, personal experiences, and fears. The series consists of 29 limestone sculptures adorned with 22k gold, creating a striking balance between raw materiality and refined detail.

The installation invites visitors to reflect on what defines and confines us. It examines the infrastructure of limitation and liberation, offering insight into the forces that mold our perceptions. Acting both as a mirror of the present state of mind and a map toward greater self-awareness, the work becomes a gateway for exploration. Ultimately, Boundaries presents each visitor with a choice: to turn away or to confront the barriers within and around them.
