SUMMARY:Story of Art Lecture Series | The Triumph of Experimental Art: Cubism & the Birth of Abstraction
DESCRIPTION:Bassam Freiha Art Foundation is pleased to invite you to the next lecture in The Story of Art series\, led by Dr. Michaela Watrelot\, Curator and Director of Exhibitions at BFAF.\n \n\nThis upcoming session\, titled The Triumph of Experimental Art: Cubism & the Birth of Abstraction\, explores a defining turning point in the twentieth century\, when artists radically reimagined the boundaries of art.\n \n\nMoving beyond representation\, artists began to experiment with form\, perspective\, and meaning in unprecedented ways. Through the works of Henri Matisse\, Edvard Munch\, Pablo Picasso\, Wassily Kandinsky\, Salvador Dalí\, and Marcel Duchamp\, the lecture will examine how traditional approaches to painting and sculpture were challenged and transformed.\n \n\nFrom the fragmentation of Cubism to the emergence of abstraction and conceptual practices\, these artists revolutionised visual language and expanded what art could be. Their bold innovations laid the foundation for many of the movements that continue to shape contemporary art today.\n \n\nTogether\, we will explore how these experimental approaches reshaped artistic expression and redefined the role of the artist in modern society.

SUMMARY:The Listening Majlis by Amin Fari
DESCRIPTION:Bassam Freiha Art Foundation invites you to the second edition of The Listening Majlis\, a unique sound experience led by multidisciplinary artist Amin Fari. \n  \nDrawing inspiration from the intimacy of the Japanese kissaten\, where listening to music becomes a quiet\, intentional act\, and the communal spirit of the Arab majlis\, a space rooted in gathering and exchange\, The Listening Majlis creates a setting where sound\, presence\, and dialogue come together. This experience invites audiences to slow down and engage with music not as background noise\, but as a shared moment of attention and reflection. \n  \nThrough a carefully curated selection of vinyl records\, Amin Fari shapes an immersive sonic environment where each track is chosen with intention\, allowing the audience to move through different moods\, textures\, and narratives. The analogue quality of vinyl adds depth and warmth\, reinforcing the tactile and sensory nature of the experience. \n  \nSet within the Foundation\, the space becomes a contemporary majlis\, one that encourages both quiet listening and organic conversation. Guests are invited to sit\, listen\, reflect\, and connect\, whether with the music\, the artworks on view\, or with one another. Rather than a traditional performance\, The Listening Majlis unfolds as a collective experience\, where time slows and attention is gently redirected towards sound. \n  \nThis second edition continues to explore the relationship between music\, space\, and community\, offering a moment of pause within the rhythm of daily life and an opportunity to rediscover the simple yet powerful act of listening.

SUMMARY:Story of Art Lecture Series | What Is Art Anyway? Abstract Expressionism & Pop Art
DESCRIPTION:Bassam Freiha Art Foundation invites you to the next lecture in The Story of Art series\, led by Dr. Michaela Watrelot\, Curator and Director of Exhibitions at BFAF. \n  \nTitled What Is Art Anyway? | Abstract Expressionism & Pop Art\, this upcoming session explores a defining moment in the twentieth century when artists began to radically challenge traditional ideas of art\, authorship\, and meaning. \n  \nFollowing the Second World War\, artistic practices shifted dramatically. Some artists turned inward\, using movement and emotion to create deeply personal works\, while others embraced mass media and consumer culture as subjects for art itself. Through the works of Jackson Pollock\, Mark Rothko\, Andy Warhol\, Roy Lichtenstein\, and other influential figures\, the lecture examines how Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art transformed the relationship between art and everyday life. \nFrom large-scale abstract canvases to imagery inspired by advertising and popular culture\, these movements redefined what art could be and expanded the possibilities of artistic expression in the modern world.
