Story of Art Lecture Series | A Story with an Open End: Contemporary Art
Description
Bassam Freiha Art Foundation invites you to the next lecture in The Story of Art series, led by Dr. Michaela Watrelot, Curator and Director of Exhibitions at BFAF.
Titled A Story with an Open End | Contemporary Art, this final session explores the diversity of artistic practices that have shaped art since 1970, a period in which artists continued to challenge traditional boundaries of form, meaning, and artistic expression.
From Donald Judd’s Minimalism to Conceptual and Performance Art, the lecture traces key movements and ideas that redefined the role of the artist and the artwork. It will also explore the rise of the Pictures Generation and examine the work of influential figures such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Cy Twombly, Jeff Koons, Damien Hirst, Banksy, and other artists who continue to shape contemporary visual culture today.
From minimal forms and conceptual gestures to performance, popular imagery, and contemporary visual culture, this lecture reflects on how the story of art remains open-ended, constantly evolving through new ideas, materials, and forms of expression.
