SUMMARY:The Listening Majlis by Amin Fari
DESCRIPTION:Bassam Freiha Art Foundation invites you to The Listening Majlis\, a unique listening experience led by Grammy-nominated sound engineer Amin Fari\, returning this season within the exhibition Roots before Petals. \n  \nInspired by the intimacy of the Japanese kissaten and the communal spirit of the Arab majlis\, The Listening Majlis brings audiences together to rediscover the art of listening. Through a curated selection of vinyl records\, Amin Fari creates a slow\, meditative atmosphere where music and art meet in conversation. \n  \nFor this edition\, the sessions take place inside Roots before Petals\, where Lana Khayat’s botanical abstractions are shown alongside works by Etel Adnan and Helen Khal. Khayat’s flowers extend beyond the canvas and across a carpet of grass\, turning the gallery into a garden. Amin’s selections respond to the surrounding works\, inviting you to sit among the flowers and let the music and the art speak to one another. \n  \nSlow down and let the record speak. \n  \nThe Listening Majlis takes place over three evenings: Friday 30 October\, Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November 2026. \n  \nFor enquiries or to express your interest\, please contact us by email. Subscribe to our newsletter to stay informed about upcoming events and programmes.

SUMMARY:Story of Art II: The Great Obsessions. Lecture 1: Standing Together\, Paul Guiragossian
DESCRIPTION:Bassam Freiha Art Foundation is pleased to announce the return of Story of Art\, led by Dr Michaela Watrelot\, Curator and Director of Exhibitions at BFAF. \n  \nFollowing the broad journey through art history explored in the first series\, Story of Art II: The Great Obsessions turns from movements to individual artists. Nine monthly lectures\, running from October 2026 to June 2027\, each look closely at a single artist whose work was shaped by a figure\, a place\, a face or an artistic problem to which they kept returning. From Paul Guiragossian and Etel Adnan to Hokusai\, Monet\, Frida Kahlo and Najat Makki\, the series offers another way into art history through the ideas that artists could never quite leave behind. \n  \nThe series opens with “Standing Together: Paul Guiragossian. Returning to the Standing Figure.” Across six decades\, Guiragossian made the human figure the core of his visual language. This session traces the figure from intimate portraits of his mother and family to increasingly distilled compositions in which individual bodies merge into a collective human presence. Even as the figure dissolves into upright passages of colour and gesture\, humanity never disappears. \n  \nPresented alongside works in the Foundation’s galleries\, the lecture explores how Guiragossian used the figure to reflect on family and belonging\, endurance and the persistence of life. \n  \nFor enquiries or to express your interest\, please contact us by email. Subscribe to our newsletter to stay informed about upcoming events and programmes.

SUMMARY:Floral Workshop with Gradient Florist: In Connection with Roots Before Petals

SUMMARY:Exhibition in Focus: Roots Before Petals
DESCRIPTION:Bassam Freiha Art Foundation celebrates the opening of Roots Before Petals\, Lana Khayat in Conversation with Etel Adnan & Helen Khal\, with a relaxed morning of coffee and music. A DJ set accompanies the visit as guests explore the works at their own pace. \n  \nThe opening will be held in the presence of Lana Khayat\, offering a special opportunity to meet the artist and gain insight into her practice and the inspiration behind the exhibition. \n  \nOpen to all\, we look forward to welcoming you and your loved ones for a morning among the flowers. \n  \nAbout the Exhibition \n  \nRoots Before Petals brings contemporary UAE-based artist Lana Khayat into dialogue with Lebanese modernists Etel Adnan and Helen Khal. Though their work differs in scale and sensibility\, each artist built an abstract visual language from the natural motif and a shared engagement with the memory of homeland. \n  \nKhayat’s new body of work\, Dessine-moi un pays\, le Liban (Draw Me a Country\, Lebanon)\, transforms the flower from image into environment. Extending beyond the canvas into three-dimensional flowers set across a carpet of grass\, it turns the gallery into a garden visitors can physically enter. Presented alongside works by Adnan and Khal from a private collection\, the exhibition recognises that nothing blooms without first taking root.
